Obituary for Jesse B. Payne
A funeral service for Jesse B. Payne, 86 of Kershaw will be held at 3:00 o’clock p.m., Wednesday, August 26, in the sanctuary of Haile Gold Mine Baptist Church. The Revs. Bart Miles and Dale Walters will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors.
Mr. Payne died Sunday, August 23, at KershawHealth, Camden. Born in Kershaw, he was a son of the late Ben and Minnie Catoe Payne. Mr. Payne retired from Springs Industries after 48 years of service and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Haile Gold Mine Baptist Church where he served in various capacities including deacon, cemetery committee and keeping up the grounds. Mr. Payne also was a member of the VFW Post 8990 and enjoyed gardening.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Mildred Phillips Payne; 2 sons, Jeff Payne and his wife Kathy of Kershaw, Karl Payne and his wife Sarah of Columbia; six grandchildren, Eddy Payne, Shaun Payne, Ryan Payne, Matthew Payne, Ashley Grace Payne and Don Payne, Jr.; five great grandchildren and a brother, Connie Payne and his wife Joyce of Kershaw. He was preceded in death by three sons; Don, Hal and Ray Payne; two grandchildren, Alison and Hope Payne and seven brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 26, following the burial in the church Fellowship Hall.
