Graveside services for James Shelton Gardner, 85 of Kershaw, will be held from the graveside in Kershaw City Cemetery, Wednesday, May 30, at 11:00 o’clock a.m. by the Rev. Bart Miles.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.
Mr. Gardner died Sunday, May 28, in Lancaster Convalescent Center, Lancaster. Born in Jefferson, he was a son of the late Gilbert and Georgia Byrd Gardner. Mr. Gardner was a faithful member of Flat Creek Baptist Church where he had served as Minister of music and was a deacon. He was a graduate of Flat Creek High School, a US Army veteran and retired from DuPont Co. after 40 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Dotsy Horton Gardner of Kershaw; 2 sons, James Michael “Mike” Gardner and his wife Becki of Rock Hill, Dean Shelton Gardner and his wife Wanda of Kershaw; 4 grandchildren, Bryan Gardner and his wife Corinne of Nashville, TN, Alison King and her husband Will of Rock Hill, Drew Gardner and his wife Chelsea and Devin Gardner and his girl friend, Carrie all of Kershaw; 2 great grandchildren, Will King and Dallas King of Rock Hill and a brother, Ray Gardner and his wife, Pauline of Lancaster. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Sistare and 4 brothers, Minor Gardner, Bill Gardner, Robert Gardner and Don Gardner.
