A funeral service for James Mitchell Sowell, 59, of Kershaw, will be held at 4:00 o’clock p.m., Sunday, July 9, 2017, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home. The Rev. Jackie Jenkins and Pastor Cotton Pate will officiate. Burial will follow in the Kershaw City Cemetery.
Mr. Sowell passed away, Thursday, July 6, at his home. Born in Lancaster, he was a son of James David and Emily Stevens Sowell. Mitchell was of Baptist faith. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mitchell was the family “handyman”. He was always there when he was needed for carpentry or mechanic work.
Surviving in addition to his mother and father of the home are 2 sisters, Vickie (Howard) Geiger of Kershaw, Patty (Mike) Brown of Camden; his brother, Tommy (Judy) Sowell of Jefferson; special friend, Libby Catoe and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Heyward and Lola Stevens and his paternal grandparents, Tom and Eula Sowell.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home and other times at the home, 5308 Sandy Lane, Kershaw.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mitchell may be made to the family to help with medical and funeral expenses.
