Obituary for James Matthew "Jimmie" Benton
A funeral service for James Matthew “Jimmie” Benton, 82 of the Catarrah community, Jefferson, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 4th, 2016, at Beauford Baptist Church, McBee. The Revs. Tim Williams and Duane Stegall will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Benton passed away, Friday, July 1st, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence. Born in Jefferson, he was a son of the late James Nevare and Anne Jordan Benton. Mr. Benton was the owner of Benton Farms. He also enjoyed baling hay, listening to country music and dancing.
Mr. Benton attended Beauford Baptist Church and served his country in the United States Navy.
Surviving are 2 sons; Eric Benton and his wife Linda, Charles Benton and his wife Nancy, a daughter, Marianne B. Barefoot all of Jefferson; 4 grandchildren, Mason Benton and his wife Megan of Lancaster, Paige Allison and her husband Austin of McBee, Jessica and Daric Barefoot both of Jefferson; 2 great grandchildren, Laiken Benton of McBee, Claire Benton of Lancaster; his close and very special friend, Rita Watson of Bishopville and the mother of his children, Edna Rae Benton. He was preceded in death by 4 sisters and a brother.
The family will receive friends, Sunday, July 3rd from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw.
