James "Jimmy" Hilton

James Barry Lenn “Jimmy” Hilton, age 73, of Kershaw, S.C., passed away, Friday evening, January 27, 2023, at MUSC Health, Kershaw Medical Center, Camden, S.C. Born in Camden, S.C., he was a son of the late John Thomas Hilton and Tressie Mae Catoe Hilton. Mr. Hilton was a former employee of Springs Industries and Carol-Knit. He attended Center Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Hilton loved horse, going fishing and working in his gardens. Most importantly he cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In his earlier years he attended Fruitland Bible Baptist College and was a minister.


He is survived by his 2 daughters, Rebekah H. (Nathan Ray, Sr.) Newell of Kershaw, S.C. and Sandra L. (Greg Wasnick) Hilton of Hartsville, S.C.; his wife, Sylvia Faile Hilton; 10 grandchildren, James Bo (Kim) Rollins, Amber Newell, Jill (Josh Kelly) Smith, Jack Rollins, Jenny (Justin Bogert) Rollins, Nathan (Nikkie Torkkola) Newell, Jr., Sheila (Sam Shirey) Newell, Joseph Deas, Alexis Deas and Joshua (Dixie) Deas; 16 great grandchildren, Caroline, Luke, Blake, Christina, Gray, Brayden, R.J., Elaina, Jacob, Bella, Ali, James, Bentley, Ryver, Ella and Cassidy; his sister, Kathy (Foster) Faile of Port Orange, FL; 2 brothers, John Franklin “Frankie” (Ann) Hilton of FL and Robert “Robbie” Hilton of Belmont, N.C., and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Barry Eugene Hilton; a great granddaughter, Dixie Deas; a sister, Rebecca Jane Hilton and 3 brothers, Paul Hilton, Thomas “Tommy” Hilton and Roger David Hilton.


The family will receive friends, Wednesday, February 1, 2023, from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. at Baker Funeral Home, 210 East Hilton Street, Kershaw, S.C.


A funeral service will be held, Thursday, February 2, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. at Baker Conference Center, 105 North Minor Street, Kershaw, S.C. Preacher Cotton Pate and Pastor James Scott Alexander will officiate. Mr. Hilton will be cremated following the funeral service.


Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Hilton may be made to Thiel Meyer Pet Adoption Center, 128 Black River Road, Camden, S.C. 29020.
