Obituary for J. C. Whitley
J.C. Whitley passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2015, at the age of 91. Born in Kershaw, SC on January 13, 1924, he was the son of the late T. Brunson and Martha Whitley. Mr. Whitley was a lifelong resident of Kershaw. He owned Whitley’s Café until he went to work for Springs Mills, from which he retired in 1986. He was a Navy veteran and a faithful member of Center Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Whitley served his church as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir.

Surviving are his wife, Margie, and sons, Jerry (Jan), Kenny (Celeste), Keith (Pam), and Jason (Teresa); a sister, Zelma Orr; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Baxley (Patrick), Jeremy Whitley, Brandy Ghent (Brad), Kerri Baker (Beaver), John Whitley (Melissa), Willis Whitley (Jessica), and Kolby and Kade Whitley and eleven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Louise Bowers and Ila Howell.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 o’clock a.m., Tuesday, July 7, at Center Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Jackie Jenkins will officiate. Burial will follow in the Kershaw City Cemetery with military honors.

The family will receive friends immediately following the burial at the Center Grove Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

The family would like to thank Cindy and Jeannie from Home Health Care of Lancaster for the loving care of Mr. Whitley during his confinement at his home.
