A funeral service for Iva Mae Ellis Bowers, 93, of Kershaw, will be held at 3:00 o’clock p.m., Tuesday, February 6, in the sanctuary of Providence Baptist Church, Kershaw. The Revs. Todd Gandy, Bobby James and Allen Lynch will conduct the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with committal services conducted by the Rev. Mike Hammond.
Mrs. Bowers, widow of Carl James Bowers died Saturday, February 3, at her home. Born in Kershaw, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Ellis and Leila Phillips Ellis. She retired from Springs Industries and was a homemaker. Mrs. Bowers was a faithful member of Providence Baptist Church and also attended Oak Ridge Baptist Church. She enjoyed visiting her friends, gardening, drawing, writing and jigsaw puzzles. Most importantly she loved reading her bible daily and enjoyed life.
Surviving are her children, Carolyn (William) Dease, Glen Bowers, Ronnie (Effie) Bowers, Sandy (Charles) Blackmon all of Kershaw and Wanda Truesdale of Shallotte, NC; 16 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Ruth E. Williams, Bonnie E. Snipes and Diane E. (James) Sims all of Kershaw and a special nephew, Henry Waites. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Billy Joe Bowers; a granddaughter, Joyce B. Outen; 2 sons-in-law, Sonny Broughton and Randy "Bobo" Truesdale; a daughter-in-law, Linda Bowers; 4 sisters, Elizabeth Waites, Vera Lee Langley, Vivian Cauthen and Margie Conyers and 2 brothers, L.J. Ellis and Gene Ellis.
The family will hold a visitation Monday, February 5, from 4:00 to 6:00 o’clock p.m. in the sanctuary of Oak Ridge Baptist Church and following the committal services, Tuesday, February 6, in the Fellowship Hall of Providence Baptist Church and other times at the Dease home.
The casket will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 o’clock p.m., Tuesday, February 6.
