Funeral services for Hilda Hunter Phillips, 89, of Heath Springs, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Heath Springs. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. John Davis will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Mrs. Phillips died Wednesday, March 14, at KershawHealth in Camden, S.C. Born May 13, 1922 in Heath Springs, she was the daughter of the late Toy and Elizabeth Small Hunter. Hilda was blessed with many talents. She had a generous and giving spirit. She graduated from Heath Springs High School and went on to Southeastern Beauty College in Charlotte, N.C. She operated Hilda’s Beauty Shop in the Pleasant Hill Community for 50 plus years and made many friends. Hilda was the mother of three daughters, Claudia Haithcock (Jimmy) of Lancaster, Brenda Morganelli (John) of Columbia, and Debra Carter Chuck) of Clearwater, Florida. She was a loving grandmother to Scott Haithcock, Dana McElmurray, Gina Haig, and Sherry Morganelli. Her great grandchildren are Davis and Evan Haithcock, Meredith, Abby, and Emma McElmurray and Evan and Kayley Haig. She was a sister to John Davis Hunter of N.C. and Marie Connor of Heath Springs. Her deceased brothers and sisters include Ivo Hunter, Mary Fletcher, and Jairy Hunter. Hilda was the widow of Heyward Phillips . They were married for 63 years . Hilda was a life long member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she was a children’s Sunday School teacher and a member of the choir. She loved music! Her family were founders of this church in the early beginnings. All of her life she was an active participant in the church. Hilda was loved by many and will be deeply missed even as her loved ones are assured she is with her heavenly Father. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in her memory to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 4357 Kershaw Camden Highway, Heath Springs, S.C. 29058. The family would also like to thank Heath Springs Residential Care, Lancaster Convalescent Center, Morningside Assisted Living and the Hospice of KershawHealth for their care and attention.
