Harry Stitzel, Jr., 93, of Sumter, S.C. and formerly of Kershaw, S.C., passed away, Thursday, February 11, 2021, at Agape Hospice of the Midlands, Columbia, S.C. Born in New York, he was the son of the late Harry Stitzel, Sr. and Elizabeth R. Stitzel. Mr. Stitzel retired from Olin Corporation as a chemical technician. He was a graduate of Syracuse University and also served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Sumter, S.C. and married to June Blanton Stitzel.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years; a daughter, Elaine Howie and her husband, John of Indian Land, S.C.; a son, William McClintock “Bill” Stitzel and his wife Crystal of Kershaw, S.C.; 2 grandchildren, Lindsey Stitzel and Cooper Stitzel and a great grandson, Brentley.
For those desiring to make a memorial contribution in memory of Mr. Stitzel may do so by contributing to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 211 Alice Drive, Sumer, S.C. 29150.
Following Mr. Stitzel’s wishes, he will be cremated and he will be laid to rest with his parents in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Forest City, N.C. at a later date.
