Obituary for Grady Wilson Horton
Funeral services for Grady Wilson Horton, 99, of Bethune, SC, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 3, 2014, in the sanctuary of Timrod Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Harold Adams will officiate. Mr. Horton was born April 22, 1915, to Wade Copeland and Maggie Jones Horton. He lived most of his 99 years of life in the Timrod Community until his death Tuesday, July 1. He was a active member of Timrod Baptist Church. Grady graduated from Bethune High School. His real passion was the love of the soil and he spent most of his life as a farmer. Grady loved to work the soil with his tractor or ride around in his pick-up truck or on his golf cart. He loved his family and his friends. You never left his home empty handed. Mr. Horton was the epitome of that old saying ,”Early to bed and early to rise.” Up before the crack of dawn he was hard to beat when getting ready to go fishing or hunting. Even in old age he was hard to beat on the golf course. Mr. Horton, though a bachelor all of his life, loved children, and they loved him. He spent his time entertaining them by making life on the farm an adventure. Grady will always be remembered for the little things he did for young and old alike. He was generous to a fault and humble as the day is young. Grady never wanted for himself and always thought of others before himself. Surviving are his brother, John Dan “Shug” Horton and a sister, Grace Horton Holley both of Camden. He was predeceased by three sisters, Nell, Eva and Myrtle and three brothers, Guy, Lawson and Ross. The family will receive friends, Wednesday, July 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Baker Funeral Home and other times at the home of his brother, 215 Welsh Street, Camden. The family would also like to thank AGAPE hospice of Camden for the love and support shown to the family. Memorials may be made to Timrod Baptist Church, 4227 Timrod Rd., Bethune, SC 29009 or AGAPE Senior Hospice of Camden, 700 W. DeKalb St., Camden, SC 29020
