Obituary for Gertrude Small Hinson Robertson
Graveside services for Gertrude Small Hinson “Trudie” Robertson, 104, of Presbyterian Community, Clinton, SC and formerly of Heath Springs, SC will be held at 2:00 o’clock p.m. in the afternoon, Saturday, April 28, 2018, in Rich Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Heath Springs, SC. Rev. Jeannie Bickett of Unity Presbyterian Church, Fort Mill, SC will officiate.
The family will greet friends immediately following the graveside service at the cemetery.
Mrs. Robertson was born January 3, 1914, in Lancaster, SC and died April 24, 2018, in Clinton, SC. She was a daughter of the late Joshua Lester Small and Lillie Bowers Small. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ross E. Hinson and her second husband, Clyde H. Robertson; her sister, Ora Lea Baker and step-children, Barbara Dekle and Dr. Clyde H. Robertson, Jr.
She was a graduate of Heath Springs High School, attended Mars Hill College and received her BA in education from Winthrop College. For 41 years, Mrs. Robertson taught first grade in the Lancaster County school district at elementary schools in Buford and Heath Springs.
Over the years she was an active member of several churches including Rich Hill Baptist Church, Heath Springs Baptist Church, Salem United Methodist Church and Unity Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill. She served in a number of leadership positions including, Adult and Youth Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher and Circle Membership. She was nominated twice for the Honorary Life-Time Achievement by the Women of The Church.
Mrs. Robertson is survived by her daughter, Betty H. Carter and her husband Phillip, of Fort Mill, SC; granddaughter, Jennifer Carter Kim and her husband Donald of Shenyang, China; several special nieces and nephews, Jimmie Croxton, Darlene H. Roberts, Jimmy Hinson, Bobby Hinson and Sandra Reece all of Lancaster, SC; Van Derrick Small of Clinton, SC and Jeanne B. Rogers of Easley, SC; 3 great nieces, Regina Croxton of Columbia, SC, Melanie Potoka of Darlington, SC and Rhonda Rogers of Greenville, SC. She is also survived by Betty C. Robertson of Misenheimer, NC, Rosalind Lowe of Albemarle, NC and Lisa Yeomans of Greensboro, NC.

The Robertson family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Clinton Home for the love, support and kindness they showed in caring for “Trudie” over the past 14 years.
