Obituary for Gerald 'Jerry' Singleton
Funeral services for Gerald “Jerry” Singleton, 89, of Kershaw will be held at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Kershaw Second Baptist Church where he was a member. The Revs. Jamie Rogers, Randall Runion and Mr. Drew Dutton will officiate. Burial will follow in the Midway Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Singleton died Sunday, September 16, in Lancaster Convalescent Center, Lancaster. Born in Glens Falls, New York, he was the son of the late Arthur and Ella Mae Black Singleton. He was a production and inventory control manager having worked for several companies before retiring from Duracell, Lancaster. Mr. Singleton was active in Midway and Kershaw Second Baptist Churches. He enjoyed the time he spent being involved with Andrew Jackson High School and Middle School girls’ volleyball, softball, basketball and soccer teams. He was especially fond of any activities his granddaughters were involved with. Mr. Singleton was a avid Boston Red Sox fan and was most proud of his Irish heritage. He also served in the United States Army. He was widowed by his wife, Alma Taylor Singleton Surviving are 3 daughters, Linda Roth of Clinton, Ohio, Donna Gouge (Steve) of North Canton, Ohio, Jeri Rogers (Johnny) of Kershaw; 2 granddaughters, Lauren Rogers and her fiancé Jacob of Charlotte, N.C., Hannah Rogers of Kershaw; a sister, Eileen Richardson (Bob) of Galion, Ohio; 2 brothers, Ted Singleton (Cece) of Freemont, Ohio and Ray Singleton (Carol) of Groveport, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Bukszar and a brother, Jack Singleton. The family will receive friends, Tuesday, September 18 one hour prior to the service beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the church Family Life Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Andrew Jackson Booster Club for a Softball Scholarship for a Female Athlete, P.O. Box 182, Kershaw, S.C. 29067
