Obituary for Ferris "Butch" Catoe, Jr.
A funeral service for Lt. Ferris E. “Butch” Catoe, Jr., 73, of Kershaw will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 23, at Abney Baptist Church. The Revs. Scott Robinson and Larry Plyler will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Highway Patrol honors.

Lt. Catoe died Thursday, October 20, at KershawHealth, Camden. Born in Kershaw, he was a son of the late Ferris E. Catoe, Sr. and Margaret Horton Catoe Lee. He retired from the South Carolina Highway Patrol after 30 years of service. Lt. Catoe was also of the owner of Abney Small Engines. He served his church as Sunday School Director and as a deacon. He was also a member of Buffalo-Mt. Pisgah Fire Department, a member of Abney Lodge # 211 and had served on the Board of Directors for Bethune Rural Water.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Jo Ann Gardner Catoe of the home; a son, Jamie Catoe and his wife Cathy of Kershaw, 2 grandsons, Ryan Edward Catoe and Nathan James Catoe; a great grandson, Parker Catoe; 2 step-sisters, Sammie Jones of Lugoff, S.C. and Ann Stigerwald of Ohio. Lt. Catoe was preceded in death by a son, Ferris E.”Eddie” Catoe, III, his step-father, Sam H. Lee and a step-brother and step- sister.

The family will receive friends, Sunday, October 23, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
