Funeral services for Ervin F. “Blackie” Blackwell, 96, of Kershaw, S.C., will be held at 2:00 o’clock p.m., Thursday, October 12, 2017, in the sanctuary of Kershaw Second Baptist Church. Rev. Ronnie Hinson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Kershaw City Cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Blackwell died Saturday, October 7, 2017, at White Oak Manor, Lancaster, S.C. He was a son of the late Chalmers Bennie, Sr. and Lillian Coy Newman Blackwell. He retired from DuPont Co. and was a member of Kershaw Second Baptist Church. Mr. Blackwell served in the Army Air Corps and was a lifetime member of 62 years of Abney Masonic Lodge # 211. He was a talented musician who loved to entertain. He and his band, Carolina Country Gospel Band traveled numerous places performing. He was married to the late Mamie Mangum Blackwell.
Surviving are his son, Erbie Blackwell and his wife Gwen of Charleston, S.C.; 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia B. “Pat” Catoe and her husband Connie Catoe and siblings, Ray Blackwell, Bill Blackwell, John Blackwell, Melvin Blackwell, Jack Blackwell, Chalmers B. Blackwell, Jr. and Irene B. Kennington.
The family will receive friends, Thursday, October 12, 2017, from 12:30 to 2:00 o’clock p.m., prior to the service in the Kershaw Second Baptist Church Family Life Center.
The family would like to thank Mr. Blackwell’s caregiver, Linda Faulkenberry, Agape Hospice, Regency Hospice and the staff of White Oak Manor for the care and compassion shown to Mr. Blackwell.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kershaw Second Baptist Church, 7737 Kershaw-Camden Highway, Kershaw, S.C. 29067.
