Obituary for Dr. Sandra C. Catoe
Dr. Sandra C. Catoe, 85, of Lancaster, S.C., passed away, Friday, June 3, 2022, at Carolinas Medical Center-Atrium Main, Charlotte, N.C. Born in Kershaw, S.C., she was a daughter of the late William Hampton Clyburn and Marguerite “Dot” Truesdale Clyburn. Dr. Catoe was a graduate of Kershaw High School, the University of South Carolina, Columbia and received her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston. She was a beloved pediatrician practicing from 1966 to her retirement in 1998. She also served as Charleston County Assistant Public Health Director and the Public Health Director for the Tri-County area in Lancaster from 1993-1998. Prior to returning to Lancaster, she was a member of Harbor View Presbyterian Church in Charleston, where she had served as an elder. After returning to Lancaster, she was a member of Kershaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Kershaw, where she served as an elder and in various capacities, giving freely of her time and talents. She loved working in her yard, tending beautiful flowers. Dr. Catoe was a member of the Lancaster Garden Club and had served as treasurer for several years.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, 4 children, Karen (David) Shore, Bubba (Mary) Catoe, Jane Catoe and William (Zeh) Catoe; 5 grandchildren, Max, Jake, Katie, John and Elliott; her sister, Jane C. Holliday and her son, Brent; and her special cat, Pokey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Ferris Catoe, November 22, 2009.
A graveside service to honor her life will be held, Monday, June 6, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in Kershaw City Cemetery, 190 Kirkland Ave., Kershaw, S.C. Rev. Bryant D. Fersner will officiate. Burial will follow in the cemetery.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the cemetery.
