Ira Douglas “Doug” Stroud, 73, of Kershaw, S.C., passed away, Thursday morning, April 15, 2021, in Lexington Medical Center, Lexington, S.C. Born in Lancaster, S.C., he was a son of the late Ira Braxton Stroud and Ollie Mae Hinson Stroud. He attended ATEC and retired from DuPont Company after 30 plus years of service. Doug was a member of the Flat Creek Fire Department, having served as Assistant Chief, fireman and first responder for 44 years. He was currently working at Carolina Motorsports Park, working in fire and rescue. He was an active member of Midway Baptist Church. Doug served as a deacon, Royal Ambassador Leader and Young Adult Sunday School teacher at the church. He also loved classic cars. Most importantly, he cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Gale Estridge Stroud of the home; a daughter, Pamela Ann Stroud Shaw and her husband, Kevin of Camden, S.C.; his son, Darren Douglas Stroud and his wife, Lynn of Spartanburg, S.C.; 7 grandchildren, Peyton Shaw, Pierce Shaw, both of Camden, S.C., Braxton Stroud, Christopher Stroud, Thomas Stroud and Taylor Stevens and his wife, Ashley all of Spartanburg, S.C. and Kendall Stevens of Phoenix, AZ; a great granddaughter, Joanne Stevens and 3 sisters, Fenish Payne, Bonnie Truesdale and Carolyn Blackmon and her husband, Jerry and a brother, Charles Ray Stroud all of Kershaw, S.C.

A funeral service to remember his life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday afternoon, April 17, 2021, in the sanctuary of Midway Baptist Church. The Revs. Steve Warren and Todd Gandy will officiate. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

Those attending the service are welcome in the sanctuary or there will be a speaker system outside the church if you would like to remain in your car and listen to the service.

The family will greet friends following the burial in the cemetery.
