Obituary for Doris G. Horton

Doris Lucymae Gardner Horton, age 95, of Kershaw, S.C., passed away, Wednesday evening, April 12, 2023, in Prisma Health Richland, Columbia, S.C. Born in Kershaw, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Amzie Tillman Gardner and Bessie Louise Walters Gardner. Mrs. Horton retired from the Kendall Company, Bethune, S.C. after 22 1/2 years of service, where she was a lab technician. She was a faithful member of Shamrock Baptist Church. Mrs. Horton was married to the late Sidney B. Horton, Jr., who predeceased her.


She is survived by 5 children; Wanda H. Scott and her husband, Mike of New Market, MD, Lynn Horton of Kershaw, S.C., Joel Horton and his wife, Debbie of Jefferson, S.C., Roger Horton and his wife, Cheryl of Kershaw, S.C. and Tim Horton and his wife, Cindy of Kershaw, S.C.; 9 grandchildren, Jennifer, Bryan, Adrienne, Stacy J., Melissa, Nicholas, Brock, Tracy and Cassie; 15 great grandchildren, Olivia, Matthew, Nevaeh, Chole, Tyler, Abby, Katie, Rocky, Austin, Lawson, Ryan, Cameron, Josh, Dalton and Triston; 4 great-great grandchildren, Ember, Logan, Braylee and Walker who is expected to arrive in June, 2023. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Esther W. Horton, and Gail W. Hall. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Heather Horton; 3 sisters, Evelyn Stewart, Edna Bradley and Iva Lee Gardner and 3 brothers, Mendel Gardner, Allen Gardner and Douglas Gardner.


The family will greet friends, Monday, April 17, 2023, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in Baker Conference Center, 105 North Minor Street, Kershaw, S.C. 29067.


A funeral service to remember and celebrate her life will be held immediately following the visitation beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the Conference Center. The Revs. Matthew Dickerson and Luke Morrison will office the service. Burial will follow in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, Kershaw, S.C.


Memorial remembrances may be directed to Shamrock Baptist Church – Mission Fund, 3573 Porter Road, Bethune, S.C. 29009 or Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1178, Greenwood, S.C. 29648-1178.
