Obituary for Cora Gardner Bowers
Cora Gardner Bowers, 83 of Kershaw, wife of the late James Archie Bowers, and daughter of the late Doctor Jack and Mollie Pittman Gardner, passed away on May 12, 2014, in KershawHealth, Camden. Mrs. Bowers was a lifelong resident of Kershaw until moving to Springdale Healthcare in Camden in 2007. After graduating from Kershaw High School, she was an Operator for 23 years with the Kershaw Telephone Company and then was a Cloth Inspector with Springs Industries for 17 years. After formally retiring she enjoyed many years as a Caregiver for numerous families in Kershaw. She will be remembered as a kind, gentle soul who formed strong bonds of friendship with all those she was around. Surviving “Miss Cora” are her daughter and son-in-law, Caron and Barry Cannon; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Ada Bowers; as well as eight nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her five sisters and two brothers. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. in the Kershaw City Cemetery with Rev. Barry Cannon and Rev. Don Knight officiating. The family will greet friends informally following the service. Memorials may be made to the Patient Activity Fund at Springdale Healthcare Center, 146 Battleship Road, Camden, SC 29020. The family is especially grateful for the care that was given to their mother by Dr. Cynthia A. Wilberding, Springdale Healthcare and KershawHealth and is thankful for the many visits and acts of kindness from the people of Kershaw Second Baptist Church.
