Charles William Doetsch, age 76, of Liberty Hill, S.C., passed away, Wednesday morning, August 9, 2023, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, Columbia, S.C. Born in Binghampton, NY, he was a son of Verda Doetsch and the late Herman Doetsch. He retired from the United States Army after attaining the rank of E7 and later retired from the Department of Mental Health. While working for the Department of Mental Health, Mr. Doetsch placed his priority on taking care of children and making sure their needs were met. Mr. Doetsch was a movie buff. He enjoyed watching nature and thrift shopping. He was a devoted husband for 53 years to his wife. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Kathleen Ann Loomis Doetsch; of the home, 3 children, Marietta (James) Chaffin, Rev. Bill Doetsch and Ruth (Thomas) Clautu; 6 grandchildren, Sapphire Clautu, Jasmine (Jason) Thomas, Cassandra Clautu, Cody (Deanna) Chaffin, Devan (Amber) Chaffin and Nathan Steele; 8 great grandchildren, Charles Clautu, Allysanne Clautu, Jaxson Clautu, Logan Chaffin, Angel Chaffin, Shiloh Wolfe,Justin Ray Chaffin, and Nicholas Thomas. He is also survived by his sister, Ginger (Lynn) Clark. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Tyler Chaffin and a great grandson, Tyler Clautu.
A committal service will be held on Tuesday afternoon, August 15, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, S.C. with full military honors.
Burial will follow in the cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care of Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw, S.C.
