Obituary for CCMSgt. James N. Edwards, SC ANG (Ret.)
Funeral services for CCMSgt. James Noah “Jim” Edwards, SC ANG (Ret.), 64 will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2014, in the sanctuary of Charlesboro Baptist Church. Burial will follow with full Military Honors in the Blackmon Cemetery. The Revs. Jackie Bailey and Gerry Potoka will officiate. Mr. Edwards died Friday, January 3, 2014, at his home. Born in Mount Victory , KY, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Velva Hargis Edwards. Mr. Edwards retired from the South Carolina Air National Guard as a Command Chief Master Sergeant. He also retired from Lancaster County School district where he was the instructor of Automotive Technology for over 25 years at Andrew Jackson High School. He was a member of Charlesboro Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Edwards was a avid collector and restorer of tractors. He volunteered with the prison outreach ministry and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Edwards served his country during Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom and was a Bronze Star recipient. He also held at masters degree in education from the University of South Carolina. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Shirley Faile Edwards; his daughter, Tonya Edwards Smarr and her husband Brooks of Great Falls, S.C.; his son, Russ Edwards of Canton, GA; 2 grandchildren, Emilee and Evan Smarr; 3 sisters, Lois Ann Allen, Janet Foster, Verna Dick and 3 brothers, Jerry Edwards, Gilbert Lee Edwards and Robert Edwards all of Kentucky. The family will receive friends, Monday, January 6, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home and other times at the home.
