Obituary for Catherine Catoe Horton
Catherine Catoe Horton, 95, of Kershaw, passed away, Saturday, April 25. She was born on April 10, 1925. Catherine was the daughter of the late Luther Catoe and Grace Hinson Catoe. She graduated from Buford High School and married William Wintford Horton on August 30, 1946. They celebrated 64 years together until his death on September 5, 2010. She was employed with Springs Mills for over 42 years and a lifelong member of Kershaw Second Baptist Church. She dearly loved her church. Mrs. Horton loved working in the nursery and teaching her senior adult class until her death. She loved the senior programs and traveling in her earlier years. Working in her garden and flower beds were so rewarding to her along with a beautiful yard.

Her life for Christ was evident as she witnessed to everyone she met. She loved cooking cakes for any occasion. Her family was her heart and joy. She prayed daily for each one at night and during the day. Mrs. Horton encouraged each of us to live daily for Christ. She would tell everyone that if she did not see them again, that she would see them in heaven. She loved talking to her friends and family and reading her cards. Christmas was her favorite time of year even though she worked hard decorating the house and cooking for her family on Christmas Eve. They opened presents, played the hand bells for entertainment and read the Christmas story of the birth of Jesus.

Surviving are her daughter, Sandra H. Faulkenberry and her husband, Randy of Charlotte, N.C.; her son, Bobby Horton and his wife, Donna of Lugoff; four grandchildren, Chad Faulkenberry and his wife, Sarah of Indian Land, Brandon Horton and his wife, Heather of Greenville, Leah Horton of Lugoff and Shelly Mize and her husband, Walt of Clover; one step granddaughter, MaryClaire Estes; six great grandchildren, Cayd Faulkenberry, Clayre Faulkenberry, Wesley Kirkley, Kathryn Mize, Margaret Mize and Nolan Mize. Also surviving are her brother, Son Catoe of Heath Springs and a sister, Betty Watts of Lancaster.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 28, at 11:00 o’clock a.m. in the Kershaw City Cemetery. The Revs. Dr. Jason Moss and Ronnie Hinson will officiate.

The family will acknowledge friends following the service at the cemetery.

Friends may pay they respects and sign a register book, Monday, April 27, from 12:00 o’clock noon until 5:00 o’clock at Baker Funeral Home.

Memorials in memory of Mrs. Horton may be made to Kershaw Second Baptist Church, Building Fund, 7737 Kershaw Camden Highway, Kershaw, S.C. 29067
