Obituary for Billie E. Bowers
Funeral services for Billie E. Bowers, 90, of Kershaw, will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. at DeKalb Baptist Church Camden. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service in the church. Visitation with the family will follow the graveside service in the church fellowship hall. The Revs. Jimmy Holley and Keith Coates will officiate.

Mr. Bowers, husband of Margaret Small Bowers died Saturday, February 17, 2018. Born in Kershaw, he was the son of the late Luther Bowers and Nettie Bowers. He was a veteran of the Army and a retiree of DuPont. Mr. Bowers was a longtime member of DeKalb Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and member of the church choir. He was an avid softball player and pitched until he was 83 years old. Mr. Bowers affectionately known as “BB” to his team members was a part of the 1998 USSSA National Championship church softball team but also won numerous awards and championships during his softball career. He passed the love of the game on to his family and touched many players with his knowledge as he coached and encouraged them long after he was unable to play. He also enjoyed bowling, gardening, and fishing. His greatest accomplishment in his life was the love of his family and was married to his sweetheart, Margaret for 72 years.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Margaret are daughters; Nancy Adams (Wayne), Dianne Truesdale (Joey); sons Mike Bowers (Debbie), Ricky Bowers (Wanda); nine grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by brothers Walter, Leo, Harold, and Ward Bowers. Also surviving are his brother Gary Bowers (Ann) of Kershaw, SC and sister-in-laws, Willie Mae Bowers and Akiko Bowers, both of Camden, SC. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.
