Mrs. Davis, loving and devoted wife of the late James B. Davis died, Thursday, November 10, 2016, in Agape Hospice House, Lexington, S.C., following a brief illness. Born in Wadesboro, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Joe Hart and Kate Lewis Chewning. She along with her late husband owned and operated Davis Variety Store, downtown Kershaw for many years. She always met her customers with a smiling face and friendly welcome the moment you walked into the store. The smell of fresh popcorn and the aroma of the slushy machine always delighted the young and old at the store. Mrs. Davis had a love for the well being for the people of Kershaw and made every effort for business to remain downtown and promoted shopping locally first. Mrs. Davis was an active member of the former First United Methodist Church and served on its Administrative Council. She was a current member of Damascus United Methodist Church, Westville, S.C. She was also a former member of the King Alfred Garden Club and a past board member of the Kershaw Chamber of Commerce.

Surviving are her son, Jerry D. Davis of Minneapolis, MN, 3 daughters; Dr. Terry Jo D. Diamanduros and her husband Andrew of Statesboro, GA, Dr. Betsy K. Davis of Charleston, S.C. and Rosemary D. Gordon and her husband Blake of West Columbia, S.C.; 4 grandchildren, Will and Elizabeth Diamanduros, James and Caroline Gordon and 2 brothers, Glenn Chewning of Morven, N.C. and Bruce Chewning of Chesterfield, S.C. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Tommy Chewning and Robert Lee Chewning.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday beginning at 2:00 o’clock p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Damascus United Church, P.O. Box 506 Westville, S.C. 29175 or Agape Hospice House, 128 Library Hill Lane, Lexington, S.C. 29072
